Action needs to be taken 'to make car insurance cheaper'
Young female drivers who struggle to secure reasonably-priced car insurance may back calls for something to be done to make cover more affordable for novice motorists.
The British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) has suggested the driving test should be changed so it produces people who pose less of a risk behind the wheel.
It explained if this happened, inexperienced motorists may find it easier to find low-cost protection.
Corporate affairs executive Graeme Trudgill stated: "We believe there should be a reform of the driving test so that young people have a more relevant test - with tests for hazard perception, situational judgement and attitudinal awareness."
He pointed out these issues are dealt with in the Pass Plus assessment and motorists who undertake this extra tuition can see the cost of their cover fall by some 30 per cent.
According to Biba, a typical 18-year-old currently pays three times the amount someone aged 50 does for protection.
