Advice for bank holiday drivers
Female motorists driving long distances this weekend could follow advice from the AA to make the journey a safer and more pleasurable experience.
The organisation recommends drivers plan their journeys in advance and any ride over three hours long should include a minimum 15-minute break.
Anyone feeling tired is advised to pull over as soon as possible - but wait until the next exit of the motorway rather than the hard shoulder.
After stopping motorists it is suggested motorists drink one to two cups of caffeinated coffee or a stimulation drink containing caffeine.
"Caffeine takes about 20 minutes to take effect, so try and have a short nap of no more than 15 to 20 minutes. Much more than this and you might wake up feeling groggy," the AA adds.
Meanwhile, previous research by the AA has revealed 47 per cent of British drivers are considering sharing lifts with a friend or co-worker to save money on fuel costs and help the environment - and car sharing this weekend may be an option for some.
