BAWE: Still barriers for women entrepreneurs
14 March 08

There are still obstructions in the way for women looking to start up their own business, according to the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs (BAWE).

Tanya Hine, the organisation's president, said that following the British Female Innovator's Exhibition in Cardiff there are still plenty of issues making it difficult for women to start a business.

"The barriers still remain. Having come from that conference, is there increasing help? No, on the whole there isn't. It's still tough for banks. There is a lot of speech about helping women [but] on the whole, everybody has to do it by themselves," Ms Hine said.

In addition, the BAWE president raised concerns about the £12.5 million announced in the Budget to help women entrepreneurs, suggesting the home-based businesses that may be created "are not really fully businesses" and that such startups "never employ anybody".

The BAWE was founded in 1954 and is a non-profit organisation that works with UK female business owners affiliated to Les Femmes Chefs d'Entreprises Mondiales, the world association of women businesses.

FOXY Lady Drivers Club would like to see more women entrepreneurs enter the male-dominated UK motor industry because motoring services can be much more female-friendly.ADNFCR-1433-ID-18510310-ADNFCR
