"Bargains galore" for female drivers in 2009
By choosing a garage or dealership that has signed the female friendly FOXY Promise© women drivers can avoid being patronised, overcharged or mis-sold services at MOT, car servicing or vehicle repair times.
Buying a car can come with its fair share of challenges - especially if visiting a dealership alone - and some people may not feel comfortable haggling on price.
However, a new report from Which? Car magazine has discovered there are "bargains galore" waiting on the forecourts for would-be drivers this year.
Research by the consumer watchdog found a number of what it is calling Target Discounts the amount purchasers should aim for when discussing cost.
The news could be comforting for female drivers who want to get a new car but do not want to pay over the odds.
For example, the magazine said those hoping to secure a Fiat Grande Punto should aim to achieve a discount of 27 per cent, which equates to about £3,800.
A Ford Focus should be brought down in price by 28 per cent (around £6,000) while a more upscale Audi A8 should be available for approximately £15,100 off (equivalent to 19 per cent).
"If you can match our Target Discount, some new cars won't cost much more to run than used cars," said editor-in-chief Richard Headland.
Those who want to boost their confidence could take comfort in the fact that, according to CMW Marketing Research, 46 per cent of new vehicles are bought by women drivers, Consumer Reports stated in 2007.
