Breakdown call-outs for basic car repairs 'are not unusual'

By choosing a garage or dealership that has signed the female friendly FOXY Promise© women drivers can avoid being patronised, overcharged or mis-sold services at MOT, car servicing or vehicle repair times.

Women drivers who call out a breakdown service to help them with basic car repairs are not alone, according to the RAC.

The organisation revealed most people who contact it require assistance with "flat tyres and flat batteries".

However, the group added it did get some more unusual call-outs.

Spokesman Erik Nelson said the RAC is prepared to go above and beyond its duty when necessary.

He explained this might involve "finding an alligator in the vehicle you are trying to rescue or rescuing a kitten locked inside a car".

Recent RAC research revealed 31 per cent of patrols had encountered amorous couples when attending a breakdown.

Meanwhile, a further 39 per cent said they had helped motorists get to an important event such as a wedding, while one member of the team revealed they had assisted in delivering a baby.

One RAC member reportedly rang the organisation because they were having difficulty unlocking their car.

When the patrol arrived they had to break it to the driver that they were trying to gain access to the wrong vehicle.
