Brits 'must check they are covered to drive outside UK'
Female motorists planning on jumping in their autos and heading to the continent this summer may want to make a few checks first, if the comments of one company are anything to go by.
Sheilas Wheels – a specialist provider of insurance for women drivers – claimed too many people are taking their cars abroad without checking the level of protection they have in Europe.
Research by the firm found 15 per cent of motorists simply assume they have comprehensive cover when driving overseas.
It also revealed 90 per cent of vehicle owners do not bother to ring their provider to check how much protection they have once they leave the UK.
The group urged drivers heading to the continent to make sure they have sufficient cover.
Spokesperson Jacky Brown said: "With the school holidays fast approaching, this may be the last thing on parents' minds - but it's crucial to plan ahead."
Meanwhile, ladies may also find booking their auto in for car servicing before heading abroad can reduce their chances of breaking down on foreign soil.
