Can eco-driving save you money?

There's no doubt female drivers are smarter at the wheel than some males - but can they be even greener?

A recent report by the RAC on "eco-driving" - methods aimed at reducing your car's use of fuel - found that adopting such techniques can save motorists up to £100 per year.

So, by getting into good habits, such as avoiding heavy braking and switching off your engine if stuck in traffic, you could not only be more environmentally-friendly but financially-friendly too.

In addition, the Driving Standards Authority believes eco-driving techniques can also make you safer behind the wheel.

The organisation's assistant chief examiner Bob Millard said this comes from "increased awareness and concern" when on the road.

"Good driving and road safety is based on hazard perception and this is also the foundation of eco-safe driving," he explained.

"Drivers will be safer, with a reduction in the risk of accidents and their journeys will be less stressful."
