Car insurance dodgers caught in mass operation 09 April 08
Female car insurance holders may be interested to read that a number of their not so law-abiding counterparts may be among those insurance dodgers recently caught by police in the south-west.
A large scale police initiative entitled Operation Utah saw officers from across nine police forces team up with outside agencies to catch drivers committing a variety of crimes.
Over 900 vehicles were stopped during the week-long initiative, over one hundred of which were found to be without car insurance cover.
Those involved used automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology to check registration numbers against the Motor Insurers' Bureau database to discover that so many drivers were evading their car insurance costs.
Gold Commander of the operation, Chief Superintendent Lawrie Lewis stated that teamwork was the key to the operation's success.
FOXY Lady Drivers Club Founder Steph Savill commented: "We share feedback within our club so female drivers, who are a better motor insurance risk than men, can continue to enjoy favourable insurance deals to reflect their driving skills.
"FOXY supports all initiatives that mean that women motorists no longer have to subsidise such irresponsible motoring crooks to a tune of some £30 in increased premiums each year. Not only do they cost us money but they are more likely to be reckless drivers and run poorly maintained vehicles which can compromise our family safety and cause more accidents."
