Outspoken motoring journo Jeremy Clarkson has compared the new Alfa Romeo Brera to a "very beautiful but bonkers girlfriend", women drivers might be very intrigued to hear.

The Top Gear presenter made the comment in his weekly Times column as he was reviewing the Alfa model – eventually giving it two stars out of a possible five.

Clarkson said the Brera was "a looker" and "the sort of car that makes you have to bite the back of your hand to stop you crying out".

But in contrast to its superb looks, it is very slow and incredibly uncomfortable, he added.

The driver and passenger can feel all of the bumps and ripples during a journey and the steering is also bad.

"You'll know exactly why you got involved [with the Brera], but equally you'll know that the relationship can never last," Clarkson finished.

A recent Top Gear stunt saw the presenter crash a truck at 56 mph into a brick wall. It was part of a feature aimed to show how difficult it was to be a lorry driver.
