Women in love with a soft top could be reassured by claims that convertibles are not as expensive to insure as some might think.

Confused.com says the average convertible costs just £32 more per year to cover in news likely to reassure women drivers looking forward to a top-down summer.

However, the site also said potential new convertible owners might want to think about stats it found which reveal the UK usually only gets 55 days of sun a year.

Managing director of the site Debra Williams said: "There is no reason why drivers cannot enjoy the benefits of cheaper car insurance when buying a convertible even if they can't make the most of putting the top down every day."

She added that motorists with a convertible should take the same security precautions as drivers of regular cars.

Not leaving valuables in a car and ensuring it is left in a safe and secure spot can help to keep thieves at bay, she added.
