Darker mornings 'can bring danger'
Female motorists heading to work this morning may have found themselves driving in the dark for the first time in a few weeks.
After the clocks went forward an hour on Sunday, the evenings will be lighter but for a while the sun will rise later.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has urged drivers to take extra care, as it pointed out it can be potentially dangerous taking to the road when visibility is reduced.
It explained motorists may find it more difficult to read the road ahead, with signs and other vehicles being harder to see.
Neil Greig, director of policy and research at IAM, cited research by the group that revealed accidents are most likely to happen during peak hours.
He said: "For the first few weeks of the clock change, motorists will need to get used to driving in darker conditions and take extra care."
Ladies who heed this advice may find they are able to protect the no-claims bonus on their specialist insurance for women drivers.
