Family 'cuts costs and emissions with car swap'
12 May 08

A family of seven swapped cars in an environmental project and cut their motoring emissions by a third inside 12 months.

The Hawksworth family took part in a BBC programme and ended up providing an example to women drivers looking to cut costs and reduce their carbon footprint.

According to Renault UK, the family cut pollution by swapping two older cars with a Renault Grand Scenic dCi 130 and Megane Coupe-Cabriolet dCi 106.

Dad Paul Hawksworth said: "We now plan ahead far more and combine journeys, which can be nice as we get to do a bit more as a family."

Foxy Lady Drivers Club members could cut their home bills as well as car costs by following the Hawksworths' example, after they saved money with simple household tips.

The family looked at electricity use and insulation in an effort to cut emissions while also monitoring car use and journey times.

The Hawksworths, from Castle Donnington, Leicestershire, took part in the project for BBC One's Breakfast show.
