Women drivers who are looking to hop into the car with their partner and get away for a romantic holiday in the next couple of months should have no problems finding a suitable location in the UK, according to VisitBritain.

Spokesperson Elliot Frisby said for the more adventurous it was also possible to combine a cosy getaway for two with a bit of action.

He suggested Cornwall was a great destination for romance and an adrenaline rush.

Mr Frisby stated there were plenty of watersports on offer but on days when the weather was bad couples could take the opportunity to curl up together in front of a roaring fire instead.

The United Kingdom Travel Survey revealed 32.9 million overnight trips were made by British residents in the UK between January and April this year.

Spending on overnight trips rose by four per cent compared with the same period in 2007 to £5.6 billion.
