Female motorists 'cannot always believe their eyes'
When buying a used car from a private seller, women drivers may be worried about how they can recognise a genuine bargain.
However, vehicle information company HPI has suggested certain checks can provide valuable clues.
It pointed out many used motors appear to boast low mileages, but warned buyers to be wary of simply accepting the reading on the odometer.
Motorists were advised to check the service history with a fine-tooth comb to see whether previous recordings of distances travelled match the wear of the car.
HPI stated: "Look for wear and tear or suspiciously new parts."
It claimed a worn driver's seat may well indicate a vehicle has covered more miles than are shown on the clock.
The company also pointed out by using its services male and female motorists can find out for sure how far a car has travelled.
Previously, HPI urged used vehicle buyers to get autos checked over by a mechanic before signing on the dotted line.
