Female motorists 'put vanity ahead of vision' 19 August 08
Some 27 per cent of women drivers do not always wear glasses when behind the wheel despite knowing they should, according to research by female friendly car insurance provider Sheilas' Wheels.
When asked why they did not wear specs, 12 per cent admitted it was because they thought it made them look ugly.
However, not putting your glasses on before hitting the road can prove costly.
More than one in ten of those questioned said they had been involved in an accident or near-miss in the last year as a result of bad eyesight and Sheilas' Wheels claims the average cost of such an accident stands at £981.
Jacky Brown from Sheilas' Wheels said: "Today's modern woman wants to look good at all times and driving behind the wheel in no exception."
However, she added that women should invest in a fashionable pair of specs or some trendy prescription sunglasses rather than risking their safety.
Elsewhere, a survey by You & Your Wedding magazine has revealed the amount couples are spending on wedding cars has dropped to £308, compared to £422 in 2006.
