Car modifications like low-riders, body kits and custom paint jobs can hide a multitude of sins, according to RAC Inspections.

Female drivers buying a modified vehicle need to have it thoroughly checked out by an independent inspector to ensure all the body parts have been fitted properly.

According to RAC Inspections a professional opinion will provide buyers with peace of mind and could give women drivers an opportunity to negotiate on the selling prices.

Nicola Johnson, manager of RAC Inspections, said: "Car modification offers people an easy way to make their car stand out from the crowd."

"When modifications are done well, they are done very well, but when done badly, they are illegal and dangerous," she added.

Some owners are tempted not to inform their insurance companies of modifications to their vehicle, according to the inspection firm, but this could result in an insurance firm refusing to deal with a claim.

Modding is on the increase and, according to the BBC, male and female driving habits are becoming more alike.
