Women drivers prefer garages that have signed the FOXY Promise© to say 'We strive to be a female friendly business and will never knowingly overcharge, patronise or sell our customers services they do not need or want.'

Women drivers who do not want to end up searching for a female friendly garage, which then has to carry out expensive car repairs, may want to check their engine for leaves, according to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).

The group explained at this time of year it is quite common for leaves to accumulate between the windscreen and the bonnet.

It warned this can block drains where rain should run off, causing water to leak into areas which need to be protected from the elements, such as the computers which control the engine, braking systems and other costly electronic equipment.

IAM advised motorists who want to avoid expensive car repairs to clear out any leaves the next time the bonnet is up.

The group has also suggested drivers start preparing for winter as soon as possible by having their anti freeze checked, replacing damaged wiper blades, stocking up on de-icer and adding a frost inhibitor to the screen wash.
