Female motorists 'should not leave clues for thieves'

Women drivers who want to avoid making a claim on their car insurance should make sure they do not leave any clues to suggest they own a satnav, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has said.
The group warned thieves who see a visible ring on a vehicle's windscreen may be tempted to break in to see if the device has been stored in the glove box.
Spokesperson Vince Yearly also advised motorists not to programme their home address into their navigation systems.
He explained: "If somebody does get hold of your satnav, it is a double whammy because not only do they know where you live, they know you are not there."
Mr Yearly added in such cases people might find they have their house burgled, as well as having their car stolen.
These comments were made after research by the insurer LV revealed 80 per cent of drivers have left valuables in their vehicles.
