Female motorists urged to check tyres

Women drivers prefer garages that have signed the FOXY Promise© to say 'We strive to be a female friendly business and will never knowingly overcharge, patronise or sell our customers services they do not need or want.'

Women drivers who do not want to spend precious hours of their Christmas holiday standing by the roadside waiting for assistance should make sure they conduct basic car checks before getting behind the wheel, it has been claimed.

TyreSafe warned many families experience delays during the festive season because tyres have not been inflated properly to take account of extra passengers and luggage.

Chairman Rob Beddis said: "Although fewer cars are on the road over the Christmas period, the number suffering from tyre-related problems is alarming."

He explained when laden-down vehicles are driven without corrections being made to tyre pressures it can lead to a blowout and an accident.

For female drivers keen to avoid the inconvenience of arranging car repairs, TyreSafe stated information on tyre pressure and additional loads can be found in a vehicle's handbook.

Earlier this year, TyreSafe suggested motorists consider fitting their cars with cold weather tyres this winter.
