Female motorists with green cars 'still need to adjust driving style'

Women drivers who have bought an eco-friendly vehicle may not automatically start making big savings, Clean Green Cars has suggested.

The group claimed how motorists drive will affect just how economical a motor turns out to be.

As an example it stated the Mini Clubman has the second lowest CO2 emissions for its model range at 138.3 g/km.

However, the company conducted a test during which the vehicle was driven without attention being paid to fuel consumption and it failed to get close to its official economy figure of 68.9 mpg, falling short by some 25 per cent.

In contrast during the MPG Marathon after green driving training, a Mini John Cooper Works returned 50.3 mpg, 23 per cent better than its published capability.

Jag Nagley from Clean Green Cars said: "Learning to drive in an eco-friendly way can better official figures by 25 per cent or more."

In related news, the company recently reported average new car carbon emissions fell by 4.5 per cent in the third quarter of the year.
