Women motorists looking to do their bit for the environment might like to know that the first car to be fully powered by electricity is set to go on sale in the UK later this year.

The two-seater TH!NK city electric vehicle will carry a price tag of £14,000 and claims to be emission-free, as well as being 95 per cent recyclable.

According to Norwegian manufacturer Think, the car is three times more energy efficient than a traditional combustion-based vehicle and is capable of travelling 124 miles in city driving conditions on a full battery - which can be recharged overnight by being plugged in for ten hours, making the cost of driving 10,000 miles about £125.

As well as its eco-friendly features, the vehicle also has ABS brakes, power steering, airbags, central locking and three-point safety belts with pre-tensioners. It has a top speed of 65 mph.

"Unlike the lower-range, electric quadricycles that have had limited success in the UK, TH!NK city is a real car which provides a realistic option for those motorists who want to drive a true zero emissions car," commented Richard Blundell, managing director of Think UK.

Other electric cars with environmentally-friendly credentials available in the UK include the G-Wiz, NICE Mega City and Elettrica.
