Fuel costs affecting demand for cars
Male and female motorists could be feeling the pinch when it comes to fuel bills, which could be having a significant impact upon demand for news cars, it has been claimed.
The latest car registration figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders revealed that the new car market fell by 6.1 per cent in June, compared with the corresponding month last year.
Paul Everitt, chief executive at the SMMT, said: "We are now seeing concerns about rising fuel bills and household costs dampening consumer confidence leading to slower demand for new cars."
However, the organisation also found that more economical and eco-friendly cars are being bought, with "record" numbers of cars now in the lower CO2 VED bands, Mr Everitt added.
The SMMT aims to provide both male and female friendly services and support for the motoring industry and claims to play a central role in the working life of the UK's motor industry.
