Government plans 'may result in motorists inadvertently breaking the law'
More male and female drivers could end up with points on their licences as a result of new government proposals, it has been suggested.
According to RoadPilot, plans to reduce speed limits from 30 mph to 20 mph on some residential roads and from 60 mph to 50 mph on more dangerous single carriageways could lead to motorists inadvertently breaking the law.
It explained if there is not enough information available and signage is insufficient, drivers may not notice the changes.
Chief executive officer James Flynn claimed: "Many people may not find out about the reduced limit until a Notice of Intended Prosecution arrives on their doorstep."
He added attempts to improve road safety are always welcome but any changes must be clearly communicated the people who will be affected by them.
