A low-emission petrol and electric powered Toyota has proved popular with women drivers in a satisfaction survey.

The Toyota Prius landed top spot in a 2008 list compiled by What Car? and JD Power and Associates.

Green-minded women and male drivers keen to cut their emissions and fuel consumption have been snapping up the model over the last 12 months.

Steve Fowler, editor of What Car?, said: "It already has iconic status, and now it's demonstrating it's also the watchword for reliability and satisfaction."

He added on top of environmentally-friendly points the car was also reliable and a decent car in its own right.

To scoop the title the Prius scored 901 points out 1,000 in the survey, which also revealed Lexus is the most customer-popular brand name.

The Prius could appeal to female motorists trying to cut costs as it achieves around 65.7 miles to the gallon.
