Hard-up drivers 'should choose policies carefully'
Cash-strapped women drivers who are looking to cut the cost of their car insurance may want to think twice before bumping their excess up, it has been suggested.
According to the British Insurance Brokers' Association, motorists need to think ahead before doing this to consider what would happen in the event of an accident.
The group made this comment in light of research that found 16 per cent of brokers have noticed customers increasing their excesses in a bid to cut costs during the recession.
It stated the move could save drivers £50 or even £80 up front, but warned it may prove more expensive in the end.
Graeme Trudgill from the group commented: "In the long run people do have claims, that's why insurers exist and some people are going to find a hefty bill if they are going for a big excess."
