Labour 'could be voted out' over fuel prices

Drivers could end up voting out the labour government purely because of rising fuel prices, a survey has revealed.

An AA poll of 18,500 of its members revealed two-thirds would opt for a different government if fuel prices climb above 149p per litre.

The same study showed 49 per cent of the members questioned thought the government shouldered the most blame for the current petrol price hikes.

AA president Edmund King said: "These results suggest that motorists have little faith in politicians to deliver motoring-friendly policies."

In May lorry and van drivers blockaded parts of London in protest at soaring fuel costs, with some saying petrol bills had gone up by half in the space of 12 months.

Some female drivers could turn to women friendly motor insurance in an effort to cut regular costs, while others could adopt eco driving tips to reduce fuel consumption.

A June petrol price report from the AA showed average UK diesel prices have recently risen by a record amount, more than a big increase recorded in May.
