Ladies 'less likely to speed'
Women drivers are less likely to speed than their male counterparts, it has been claimed.
Research from Direct Line Car Insurance and road safety charity Brake found one in three male motorists admit to regularly travelling at 35 mph or above in 30 mph zones, compared to one in seven female road users.
Meanwhile, in the countryside the gender gap was found to be even more pronounced.
Of those questioned, one in five men said they often travel faster than 60 mph on single carriageway rural roads, compared to one in 16 women.
Tim Coats, Professor of Emergency Medicine at Leicester University said: "Brake urges all drivers, but particularly men, to kill their speed and save a life."
Female motorists may well find they can secure a great deal on specialist insurance for women drivers because they are generally considered to pose less of a risk behind the wheel than male road users.
