Lying to your insurer is 'not worth the risk' 15 August 08
As the number of female motorists with drink driving convictions increases, Norwich Union has highlighted the importance of being honest when applying for car insurance.
Erik Nelson from the insurer said although a drink driving conviction could "seriously" increase motor insurance premiums for women drivers, lying is not worth the risk.
He said: "If a motorist fails to declare their convictions they risk their motor insurance policy becoming void in the event of a claim."
However, he added the fact that more women are getting behind the wheel when over the limit should not affect the female friendly motoring deals that are available to women drivers in general.
Research published earlier this year by Confused.com revealed that 920,000 women were convicted for driving offences in 2007, compared to 2.3 million men.
Meanwhile, a report by the Motor Insurers' Bureau found that uninsured drivers were ten times more likely to have a drink driving conviction than those with cover.
