"Millions" of hybrid cars to arrive on the roads 10 June 08
Innovative green cars like the Toyota Prius will appear in their millions in the near future, an expert has said.
Advances in technology will mean hybrid vehicles have a "major impact" on the car industry, believes the publisher of eco driving website Clean Green Cars.
Earlier this month Toyota revealed sales of the Prius had gone past the one million mark, with women drivers helping to contribute to the landmark total.
Jay Nagley of Clean Green Cars said: "In four or five years time there will be a new generation of hybrids which will be much more efficient."
He also said there would be millions of similar cars in five years and added the Prius was "the tip of the iceberg".
Hybrid cars are powered by a combustion engine and electric motor combination and consume far less fuel than traditional vehicles.
Women drivers looking to cut the cost of motoring could go for the car, as it is exempt from fees such as the London congestion charge.
Clean Green Cars provides advice and information on choosing and using cars in a more environmentally-friendly way.
