Motorists 'keen to avoid driving this Christmas'
Women drivers may be more reluctant to take to the roads this Christmas, according to new research.
A study by the AA has revealed 65 per cent of Brits are planning to avoid travelling over the festive period.
Some 18 per cent of people who went away for Christmas last year have decided to stay at home in 2008.
The AA suggested motorists may be avoiding driving this year in a bid to save money and avoid bad weather.
However, the group said those people who are going to be travelling this Christmas need to take care if they want to avoid an accident and the inconvenience of having to organise car repairs.
Andy Taylor, AA Patrol of the Year 2008, stated: "Punctures increase over the winter months when the roads are wet, as water and grime lubricate foreign objects making it easier for them to penetrate the tyres."
In other news, the AA recently urged motorists to be on their guard against thieves looking to steal Christmas presents from cars.
