FOXY Archive Motorists 'to pump out less pollution by 2025'
English drivers will be producing far less pollution in 2025, the government has estimated.
Motorists should pump out about 93 million tons of harmful CO2 in 2025, six million tons less than they are expected to produce in two years' time.
Transport secretary Jim Fitzpatrick released the figures, adding the final totals may be lower because the estimates do not include any future changes in road law.
Mr Fitzpatrick said: "These forecasts are in the absence of further policy measures such as the changes to vehicle excise duty announced in this year's budget."
The figures also do not include mandatory limits on the CO2 emissions of the new cars, currently being discussed.
Women drivers could play a big part in the reduction by paying attention to the female friendly new and used cars they decide to buy.
Website Clean Green cars helps motorists choose cars which meet certain CO2 reduction targets.
The site also publishes tips on how to cut fuel consumption, such as changing gear early and cutting down on air conditioning use.
