Nissan offering cash for bangers that are not so old
Female motorists with old bangers who were disappointed to find they are not eligible for the government's vehicle scrappage scheme may welcome an announcement from Nissan.
The manufacturer stated it felt the programme should not be limited to people with vehicles over ten years old and revealed it was offering its own cash incentives for people with autos aged between eight and the lower limit set in the initiative unveiled by Alistair Darling.
It explained motorists would be able to trade in such models against any of its British-built cars for at least £2,000.
Managing director Paul Willcox stated: "With Micra, Note, Qashqai and Qashqai+2 all produced in Sunderland this should ... be good news for all the staff at our plant and the British manufacturing industry as a whole."
Women drivers who decide to take Nissan up on this offer will be able to drive away with the first of these models for £5,995.
Those whose motors are still not old enough to qualify for Nissan's extension to the scrappage scheme may want to book their vehicle into a female-friendly garage for a service to help them keep it on the road for a few more years.
