Parents urged to get car seats checked

Men and women drivers in Scotland who are concerned they may not have fitted their child's car seat correctly are being invited to have it checked.

Tayside police are offering a monthly service in each of the three local authority areas in the region.

People who would like to attend will need to make an appointment.

Officers were keen to point out they are not seeking to criticise or catch parents out.

They stated their intention is to provide free and impartial advice in order to help keep children safe.

Commenting on the initiative, Marian Scott, road safety coordinator, said: "The idea behind this new appointment scheme is to deliver an enhanced service on a date and at a time when the public know we will be available."

Individuals seeking to make an appointment have been advised to contact their local road safety officer.

Earlier this month Tayside police urged motorists to adjust their driving style in accordance with road conditions, after a drop in temperature led to a number of early morning accidents.
