Reverse parking 'can save you money'
Female motorists who have been feeling the effects of the credit crunch can cut their costs by changing their habits behind the wheel, according to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).
The organisation states one way to save money is to reverse park so that when an owner gets back into their car they can drive off straight away.
It explains the colder an engine is the more petrol it uses and having to shunt back and forth means it takes longer to warm up.
The driver of a car used for work and weekend shopping can save about £50 a year by reverse parking, the IAM claims.
It also suggests motorists stick to the speed limit.
"Edging over the motorway speed limit to 80 mph saves very little time, but it will cost typically around three or four pence per mile more," the group advises.
In other news, IAM welcomed figures from the Department for Transport last month which showed road deaths in 2007 had dropped by seven per cent in comparison with 2006.
