Road tax changes 'good for the environment'
Foxy lady drivers who bought a used car between 2001 and 2006 could see their duty costs jump to more than £400 a year, according to the Telegraph.
Environment secretary Hilary Benn said it was important that the used-car market was subject to the same taxes levied on new cars.
He told the BBC's Politics Show: "Three out of every four cars that are sold in the country are actually second-hand cars."
"It will act as an incentive as people take decisions about what car, second hand or new, to buy," he added.
Mr Benn said that the soaring cost of fuel was a reason to go ahead with plans to tackle climate change through taxation.
And foxy lady drivers with a used car could even see duty backdated to when they purchased their vehicle.
The Press Association reports that more than nine million male and female drivers will be affected by the government's proposed shake-up of road tax.
