Satnavs 'can help reduce driving stress'

Whether you are on the school run or off to the shops, it can sometimes be stressful behind the wheel despite female friendly motoring tips and advice.

But, according to satellite navigation system (satnav) manufacturer TomTom, installing one of these gadgets in your car can help to relax the driver and reduce anxiety levels.

Following a survey commissioned by the company, public relations manager for the UK and Republic of Ireland Jenny Hodge said satnavs can also improve "general driver behaviour".

She added: "Research showed that the use of satnav devices heightens awareness and reduces the stress levels of the driver."

Ms Hodge went on to suggest that they can reduce the number of miles travelled and therefore have a potentially positive effect on fuel bills.

In addition, 74 per cent of respondents said a satnav helped them to feel "more in control" at the wheel.

Besides helping drivers to navigate unfamiliar roads and regions, some satnavs now have mp3 compatibility and can be removed every time the car is left unattended.
