Scrappage scheme bargains 'may not be that great'
Female motorists who were looking forward to getting rid of their old bangers under the scrappage scheme may not get the kind of bargain they were hoping for, one industry group has suggested.
The Association of British Drivers (ABD) claimed a number of manufacturers have had to put their prices up to cope with the losses they will make under the initiative.
As a result, participants in the programme may not enjoy the kind of discounts they were expecting.
However, ABD said there would be one key winner when it came to the scrappage scheme.
Spokesman Brian Gregory stated: "The cars cost about £5,000 to £6,000, so it's the government who benefits from the VAT, car tax and all the rest of it."
The group previously suggested motorists may be better driving their old vehicles into the ground rather than taking part in the cash for bangers scheme.
Ladies who plan to take this course of action may want to book their auto in for car servicing to ensure it is safe to stay on the roads for another few years.
