It may not be the most fashionable move for foxy lady drivers to make behind the wheel, but police in the Cotswolds are reminding motorists to wear their seat belts.

According to the Cotswold Journal, officials in the area recently raised the issue at a regional meeting.

Women drivers may save on their car insurance policies from female friendly dealers if they buckle up, as otherwise cover companies could see them as negligent drivers.

Police Constable Gary Brewer commented that the lack of safety precautions employed by drivers is behind a number of collisions.

He said: "An alarming number of people [are] not wearing a seat belt ... Most of the fatal road traffic accidents I go to are caused by people not wearing seat belts."

In 1982, the law on wearing a seat belt while in the front of a car came into force, followed by a similar rule for people in the back of the vehicle nine years later.
