Singletons in the UK 'prepared to go the extra mile'

Men and women drivers in the UK are prepared to go the extra mile for love, a new survey has suggested.

The poll by Vauxhall revealed one in five single Brits have travelled more than 150 miles to go on a date.

On average, motorists were happy to cover 63 miles in pursuit of romance, the equivalent of a journey from London to Oxford.

Singles from the south-west were prepared to make the most effort to find love, with the average resident prepared to travel 73 miles to meet up with a potential mate.

However, people from the east Midlands were more content to make a romantic rendezvous closer to home - generally within a 46-mile radius.

Commenting on the findings, Simon Ewart from Vauxhall said: "Technology coupled with greater car ownership means we are more mobile in our search for 'the one'."

Meanwhile, female motorists stuck for ideas on what to buy that special person for Valentine's Day may want to consider hiring a flash car.

Europcar recently advised drivers they can hire a prestige model for the weekend from £99.
