By choosing a garage or dealership that has signed the female friendly FOXY Promise© women drivers can avoid being patronised, overcharged or mis-sold services at MOT, car servicing or vehicle repair times.

Female friendly garages may have noticed a downturn in trade over recent months as motorists attempt to carry out their own repairs, a new report has suggested.

Car Parts Direct has reported an increasing number of people have been buying vehicle parts online in an attempt to save money.

The group advised this was an option for all drivers, even those who were not confident about fixing their motors themselves.

It suggested people could still cut costs by buying the parts online and then taking them to a female friendly garage to have them fitted.

The publisher of car maintenance manuals Haynes has also recently announced as the economic climate worsens more people are buying its guides.

Managing director John Haynes said: "You don’t need to buy a new car to enjoy reliable motoring as modern cars are generally reliable, especially if they are serviced and maintained regularly."

Last month, Car Parts Direct advised carrying out basic preparation could ensure a first time MOT pass.
