Smaller cars 'seen as answer to credit crunch'

Women drivers prefer garages that have signed the FOXY Promise© to say 'We strive to be a female friendly business and will never knowingly overcharge, patronise or sell our customers services they do not need or want.'

Female motorists who are considering downsizing to a smaller car as a result of the credit crunch and rising motoring costs are not alone, if the results of new research are anything to go by.

A survey by EurotaxGlass's revealed 38 per cent of drivers have decided to look for a greener, more fuel-efficient vehicle as a result of increasing prices at the pump and changes to road tax rules which see heavier polluting vehicles penalised.

Some 29 per cent of road users also said they were planning to switch from a petrol to a diesel car to save money.

Adrian Rushmore, managing editor of Glass's Guide, said: "The findings highlight just how keen motorists are to cut the cost of owning and running their cars."

He added these worries "are not likely to go away" in the near future.

In other news, EurotaxGlass's recently highlighted a study by Google which showed an increase in the number of drivers who are visiting just one dealership before purchasing a new car.
