Spending extra time 'could save drivers money'

A few simple precautions could help prevent women drivers from having to make a car insurance claim this winter, it has been reported.

Confused.com advised motorists to make sure vehicle batteries are well-charged before a long journey.

It stated making sure tyre tread is above the legal minimum of 1.6 mm will also provide better grip on frosty roads.

In addition, the online resource suggested windscreen washer fluid is topped up with anti-freeze.

Will Thomas, car insurance expert at Confused.com, added: "Leaving home ten minutes earlier, in order to de-ice the windscreen, will save that potentially dangerous mad rush to work."

He warned it was worth taking the extra time, as accidents could see premiums for cover rise by up to 50 per cent.

In other news, Confused.com recently reported Del Boy from Only Fools and Horses could be looking at paying £623.60 a year for car insurance for his Reliant Robin - as this is the average paid by people living in Peckham.
