Survey reveals measures parents will go to 'for a place at a good school' 01 September 08
With children across the country due to start school this week, research by female friendly car insurance company Sheilas' Wheels has revealed the lengths parents will go to in order to secure their first choice of educational establishment.
A survey by the group has found 18 per cent of kids are expected to miss out on a place at their first choice of school.
Meanwhile, seven per cent will not receive an offer from any of their first three choices.
As a result some 33 per cent of parents are considering moving home and five per cent are thinking about buying an additional property in the catchment area of their favoured school in order to guarantee their child a place.
However, less than a quarter of parents said they would be prepared to appeal if their child were refused a place at their number one school.
Jacky Brown from Sheilas' Wheels said: "Given the number of children who will struggle to gain a place at their preferred school, it's surprising that more parents aren't prepared to fight the decision."
Elsewhere, a survey by Fool.co.uk has revealed 81 per cent of women would consider buying a house in the current economic climate, compared with 30 per cent of men.
