Teenagers targeted by DSA
Young male and female motorists are being targeted by a new Driving Standards Agency (DSA) initiative.
The group's Arrive Alive scheme is aimed at reducing the number of road fatalities among 16 to 19-year-olds.
It involves a driving examiner conducting a presentation for youngsters, warning them of the dangers they will face as newly-qualified drivers.
During 2007, 136 motorists aged between 16 and 19 years old died in traffic accidents.
Spokeswoman for DSA Rosemary Thew said: "It is a sad fact that one in five deaths on British roads involve newly-qualified drivers.
"They are certainly one of the most vulnerable groups out on the roads today."
Ms Thew added it was hoped by talking to youngsters before they start driving the number of serious accidents could be reduced.
Colleges and schools across the UK are being encouraged to book an Arrive Alive presentation this half term.
