Used car buyers may want to act now
Women drivers looking to save money by opting for a used car may want to buy sooner rather than later, if the comments of one industry organisation are anything to go by.
The Retail Motor Industry's Society of Motor Auctions has reported prices for second-hand models are rising.
It pointed out vehicles going under the hammer in the first few months of 2009 have been changing hands for significantly more than those sold towards the end of 2008.
The group said demand for used cars was up about 20 per cent in January.
Chairman David Scarborough revealed he did not expect the situation to change in the immediate future.
"With new car sales likely to continue at a much slower pace than previous years, the used car at auction will continue to be in big demand," he predicted.
Female motorists buying second-hand vehicles may find they can get a good deal on insurance for women drivers.
Cover can be cheaper for used cars because they are generally less expensive than new models.
