Using mobiles 'not always dangerous'
Male and female motorists who use their mobiles at the wheel may not always be putting themselves and other road users at risk, it has been suggested.
The Association of British Drivers (ABD) claimed how dangerous it is to talk or text on a handheld device depends entirely on the circumstances.
It said if a person was at a complete standstill on the motorway because of an accident, they would not compromise anybody's safety by calling their loved ones to advise them of the situation.
However, trying to hold a conversation or send a message while on the move is a completely different matter, the organisation added.
ABD said texting while trying to control a vehicle seems particularly dangerous.
Founder member Hugh Bladon commented: "How anybody can do that while driving is totally beyond our comprehension."
In other news, ABD recently called for investigations into road accidents to concentrate on how to prevent such collisions in the future, rather than simply ascertaining who was at fault.
