Wiltshire Police launch road safety campaign
Women drivers in Wiltshire may notice increased police patrols on the road over the coming days.
The force has revealed it is running a campaign to crack down on motorists who use handheld mobile phones at the wheel.
It claimed making a call or sending a text on such a device while on the road significantly increases a driver's chances of being involved in an accident.
However, Wiltshire Police added some people are still prepared to take the risk.
Female motorists who are caught using a handheld mobile while in control of a vehicle may lose access to the most competitive deals on specialist insurance for women drivers.
Inspector Nick Elton said committing the offence could be an expensive mistake for people to make.
"Not only will they have the fine to pay, but their insurance premiums will rise by anything between ten and 40 per cent," he explained.
With an average policy costing £500 a year, that could make a significant difference, the police spokesman stated.
