Women 'choose mates who look like their dad' 04 September 08
Females who are in the market for a new boyfriend at the moment may find themselves attracted to men who resemble their fathers.
When shopping around for a man, women tend to choose partners who look like their dads, according to a new study.
Research carried out at the University of Pecs in Hungary has found significant correlations between the facial proportions of women's fathers and husbands, the BBC has reported.
The similarities were particularly pronounced where the nose and eyes were concerned.
Women were also found to share certain physical attributes with their mothers-in-law, especially in regards to lips and jaws.
Principal researcher Tamas Bereczkei said: "Our results support the sexual imprinting hypothesis which states that children shape a mental template of their opposite-sex parents and search for a partner who resembles that perceptual schema."
Previous research has suggested certain elements of similarity can make couples more fertile and genetically compatible.
In other news, Release Travel has claimed women on hen parties are choosing increasingly exotic locations in a bid to escape their financial worries.
