Women 'more honest' on insurance claims 09 May 08
Women drivers are more honest than men when it comes to making insurance claims, new research suggests.
Price comparison site Moneysupermarket polled 1,404 drivers and asked what they would do if their car was stolen after they failed to secure it properly.
Results showed 39 per cent of men would be tempted to lie to their cover provider while just 26 per cent of women drivers would consider doing the same.
Moneysupermarket's director of insurance Richard Mason said: "I urge all drivers to tell the full truth, but even more importantly, secure their cars."
He added providers may refuse some drivers cover in future if their lies are found out.
The poll found 33 per cent of drivers overall would keep the truth from their insurer, meaning 11 million UK motorists could be tempted to make fraudulent claims.
Around 36 per cent said they would tell the truth while 31 per cent would sit on the fence, unsure whether to own up or lie.
Fraudulent insurance claims currently cost cover providers around £1.6 billion a year, the BBC reports.
