Women with points on their licence pay more 01 July 08
Female drivers with penalty points on their licence can expect to pay up to 60 per cent more for their car insurance, according to Confused.com.
But women drivers in their 50s with penalty points on their driving licences face higher premiums than their male counterparts.
According to the insurance comparison website, a 55-year-old BMW MX5 driver from Bristol who received six endorsements on his licence could expect to pay up to 49 per cent more for insurance cover.
A female driver in the exact same situation could see her insurance premium jump by 81 per cent.
Carlton Hood, chief executive officer of Confused.com, said: "As well as suffering from additional insurance costs immediately after gaining points on a licence... insurance premiums remain high long after the points have expired."
And it's not just older drivers who see their premiums skyrocket after a speeding ticket.
A 21-year-old female Ford Fiesta driver from Manchester would be charged 92 per cent more for their insurance as a result of six penalty points.
A speeding ticket will result in a minimum of a £60 fine and three penalty points.
